He may have been the brother of Thomas William Armes (1894-1963), who was an artist and teacher, born in St Ives, Huntingdonshire - one of a large family of an innkeeper and farmer. He was encouraged by Walter Dendy Sadler and then studied at Cambridge School of Art. In 1913 he was awarded a scholarship to study in The Hague. Condition appears fine.
