He served with the Regiment during the Great War in the Balkan theatre of War from 13 October 1915. He was killed in action on the Western Front whilst serving on attachment to the 2nd Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers on 7 October 1918, and is buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gouy, France. Ronald Douglas Cooper was born in Burgess Hill, Sussex, in 1894, and attested for the Royal Sussex Regiment at Lewes, Sussex. He served with the 13th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action at Passchendaele on 27 September 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. Ralph Cooper was born in 1899 and served with the 5th (Cinque Ports) Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment during the Great War.
