Faulkner, William (1897-1962) Typed Letter Signed, 23 April 1957. Single page typed on one side with hand-addressed holograph envelope. To Alexander Rives, arranging for the purchase of a house in Charlottesville, Virginia, offering a retainer (not included). Old folds, both the letter paper and envelope are re-used with the previous addressee's name crossed out on the envelope, and letterhead crossed out and used upside-down, 8 1/2 x 11 in. Faulkner came to UVA Charlottesville as a writer-in-residence. In this letter, he describes his and his wife's housing needs, and specifically mentions the house on Rugby Road that they ultimately purchased. A friendly newsy letter, Faulkner also mentions an unpleasant children's birthday party, his injured clavicle, plans to hunt in Charlottesville "every winter," and the longer term plan to buy a large farm in Albemarle County.
