Fernel's insistence on personal observation and experiment made him one of the most influential physicians of the new school of medicine. In the important second part of Medicina entitled "Pathogiae Lib. vii," Fernel "provided the first systematic essay on the subject, methodically discussing the diseases of each organ. Fernel was the first to describe appendicitis, endocarditis, etc." (Garrison-Morton). The first part comprises the second edition of the author's classic treatise on physiology.
