Fidelia Bridges (American, 1834-1923) Violet Leaves Unsigned, exhibition label affixed to the reverse. Watercolor and gouache on paper, 9 x 11 1/2 in. (22.8 x 29.2 cm), framed. Condition: Spotting at left edge, not examined out of frame. Provenance: By descent to George C. Lay. Exhibitions: Fidelia Bridges Exhibition, October 19-December 6, 1986, The Connecticut Gallery, Marlborough, Connecticut, #27. N.B. Accompanied by a letter from George C. Lay regarding the provenance of this lot; as well as Fidelia Bridges American Pre-Raphaelite, essay and catalog by May Brawley Hill, published in 1981 by Berry Hill Galleries; and Familiar Birds and what the Poets Sing of them, illustrated by Fidelia Bridges and edited by Susie Barstow Skelding, published in 1886 by White, Stokes, & Allen, New York.
