Nichols Date: 1920 Description: Illustrated with 50 full-page black and white illustrations from the art work of Aubrey Beardsley. (4to) 30½x23 cm (12x9¼"), gilt-decorated and lettered black cloth, top edge gilt. No. 221 of 500 copies. Signed by H.S. Nichols on the limitation page. Art experts A. E. Gallatin and Joseph Pennell proclaimed the Beardsley drawings represented here along with the 20 others exhibited at Nichols' bookshop in April 1919 forgeries. "According to Gallatin, Haldane McFall believed them to be the work of 'at least two forgers,' probably Nichols and one of his associates" - Lasner 222. Lot Amendments Condition: Spine ends a bit frayed, light wear; bookplate; very good. Item number: 294095
