Original cloth, lightly rubbed on spine. The account of the Duke of the Abruzzi's expedition to conquer K2, the second highest mountain (28,251ft) in the world. It includes a scientific study of the Baltoro glacial region of the Karakoram, an area which encompasses many of the worlds longest glaciers. The photographs are by Vittorio Sella and include the first photogrammetric survvey of K2. Over the 2 month period of the expedition, several attempts were made to conquer the peak without success ... the mountain was finally conquered in July 1954.
