FINE BINDING] PARDOE, JULIA. The Life of Marie de Medicis, Queen of France. . London: Richard Bentley & Sons, 1890. Three volumes, red crushed levant morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, covers with dark blue strapwork, the large panels with a seme of gilt fleurs-de-lys and dots, the spines richly gilt, and with the green crushed levant doublure of the first volume set with a fine rectangular miniature portrait of Marie de Medici; housed together in a sprung-hinged, blue velvet-lined gilt tooled and gilt lettered maroon morocco display case on plinth, also by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. 8 1/2 inches (21 cm); 456; 463; 449 pp., all edges gilt. Trifling wear to case, some separation to the silk hinges (but the binding entirely sound). With the Doheny bookplates. A fine example of a Cosway style binding, beautifully presented, sold in the Doheny sale Part III, February 2, 1988, . C
