Beschreibung:

first edition, presentation copy, inscribed to John [Hayward] on front free endpaper, original boards, minor bumping to corners but overall a fine copy, dust-jacket by Richard Chopping, minor rubbing to extreme corner-tips, spine very slightly toned, but overall a fine example, [Gilbert A11a 1.1], 8vo, 1963. *** An excellent association copy, inscribed to Fleming's friend John Hayward (1905-65): "To / John / To pick holes in! / from / Ian." Hayward and Fleming were close friends, literally as they were once next-door neighbours in the Cheyne Walk area of London, where Hayward flat-shared with T.S. Eliot. When Fleming acquired the Book Handbook (subsequently Book Collector) from Lord Kemsley in 1952 the magazine was co-edited by Hayward and Percy Muir, and Fleming left them in charge of all editorial decisions, a professional respect perhaps reflected in this inscription.
