Beschreibung:

For only the second time since its 1854 opening, the San Francisco Mint produced no double eagles in 1912, the other year was 1886. The Denver Mint also failed to produce twenties, the first such omission since its opening in 1906. Philadelphia struck less than 150,000 double eagles in 1912, its lowest mintage also since 1906. Despite the limited production, currently, the 1912 is available in lower Mint State grades, however, Gems are seldom encountered, and the supply is insufficient to meet the demand from ambitious collectors of this highly popular series. This highly lustrous piece has a bold strike and an overall clean appearance. The surfaces present a pronounced green-gold appearance with abundant accents of peach on each side. A couple of tiny abrasions are mentioned under the eagle that can be useful as future pedigree identifiers. Census: 2 in 65+, 6 finer. (PCGS 9160)
