FORSTER, E.M.]. PLOMER, WILLIAM. Autograph manuscript signed of the essay "Forster as a Friend." N.p. [1969]. 30 pages, 8vo, written in ink on rectos only of lined sheets removed at top from a spiral-bound notebook, a working draft with extensive revisions, cloth slipcase , inscribed by Plomer on a folder containing the manuscript: "Rough MS draft of an essay by William Plomer, Forster as a Friend , which appeared in Aspects of E.M. Forster , edited by Oliver Stallybrass, and published by Edward Arnold Ltd., to mark Forster's ninetieth birthday, in 1969." An interesting manuscript by Plomer, South African poet and novelist, recounting his thirty-year friendship with Forster; it begins: "When I returned to England in 1929 many kindnesses were done to me by Leonard and Virginia Woolf, and it was they who introduced me to Morgan Forster. I was then twenty-five, and until this moment, when I have been doing a little mental arithmetic, it has never occurred to me that Forster was then twice my age -- a lead he has not managed to maintain..."
