Hazen "on charges preferred by Gen. Transcript of various records sent by Enoch Poor (President of the court) and others to John Hancock; this step has been forced "by General [Benedict] Arnold's Appeal;" they had hoped that their verdict might make Arnold "sensible of the impropriety of his Conduct." The text of Arnold's protest objects to "ungenteel, and indecent reflections upon a superior Officer," hinting at his intention to challenge Poor to a duel; other communications accuse Arnold of "contempt and disrespect towards the court," concluding with an order of 12 Aug. 1776 to John Trumbull to "put in arrest Brig.
