FORT TICONDEROGA]. BALDWIN, Juditha. Manuscript "Memorandum of Sundry Articles that may be necessary to carry on the works in the Northern Army in the Year 1777," signed at end by Baldwin, "Engineer in the Northern Army," n.p., n.d. [late 1776?]. 2 pages, folio, old fold separations professionally mended . Very detailed listing of tools and implements required, specifying various proposed improvements at Ticonderoga including the "building of a Block House east of the Old Fort...[another] on the Height of the old French lines...Driving piles through the Ice across the lake to strengthen the Boom...Building a Fort on Mount Independence with four bastions and a covert way on the East and South side..." -- HOLMES, James, Colonel . Letter signed to Col. Timothy Bedell, Ticonderoga, 16 December 1775. 1 page, folio, integral address leaf, partial fold separations . Explaining orders from Genl. Philip Schuyler given when he "left this post" concerning forwarding of prisoners from St. Johns [Canada], noting that "Lake George is passable in Boats" and vowing to render assistance "consistent with orders from General Schuyler..." --[CORTLANDT, Philip] Note signed on his behalf by Col. Cornelius Wynkoop, Ticonderoga, 13 July 1776, 1 page, oblong, 85 x 175mm. Certifying that of 5 June Lt. Charles Parsons "went from this Post with about 41 men under his Command in six Batteaus...and...returned to this Post again before he was ordered on to join the Army in Canada..." -- Manuscript copies of "Depositions of Henry Sherburne, Major Edward Cumpston and Jeremiah Miller, Lieutenants," and "Deposition of Samuel Young, Captain," St. Johns, 4 June 1776 and n.d. Together 5 pages, 4to. Vivid personal accounts, copied by Thomas Hubbard, Adjt., of the successful British attack on the American forces at The Cedars, during the Canada campaigns. Sherburne and his colleagues report on their flight from a party of Canadians and Indians in a small boat, their capture, and events after their capture: "after we surrendered the Savages most barbarously murdered several..." etc. -- Manuscript transcription of letters and petitions regarding the outcome of a courts-Martial of Col. Hazen "on charges preferred by Gen. Benedict Arnold," Ticonderoga, 1-19 August 1776. 7 pp., 4to, the pages fragile, loose in an early half morocco binding, several chips at margins with minor text loss. Transcript of various records sent by Enoch Poor (President of the court) and others to John Hancock; this step has been forced "by General [Benedict] Arnold's Appeal;" they had hoped that their verdict might make Arnold "sensible of the impropriety of his Conduct." The text of Arnold's protest objects to "ungenteel, and indecent reflections upon a superior Officer," hinting at his intention to challenge Poor to a duel; other communications accuse Arnold of "contempt and disrespect towards the court," concluding with an order of 12 Aug. 1776 to John Trumbull to "put in arrest Brig. Genl. Arnold for conducting himself in a contemptuous, disorderly manner..." -- WELLS, John. Letter signed to Col. Morgan Lewis, Deputy Quartermaster General, Northern Dept., Albany, 15 December 1778. 2 pages, folio . Fine. Summary of disbursements of former Deputy Quartermaster Udney Hays, 30 Oct.17 76-21 Aug.1777. Together 7 items . (7)
