fragment of a manuscript leaf on vellum, large initial in colours on a green background, with a gilt border, depicting a group of monks or friars, in brown habits, and acolytes, in white surplices, stanidng before an altar, with an open choirbook on a lectern, in a room with panelled walls and a gilt ceiling, scuffed, part of 4 lines of Latin text visible on verso, framed and glazed, plastic strip on back with provenance note, c. 130 x 135 mm., ? Milan, fifteenth-century. *** Provenance: 'Milanese miniature E 16 C Dyson Perrins Coll / C IV 88B' . C. Dyson Perrins (1864-1958, philanthropist and manuscript collector). This miniature perhaps from the album of Italian miniatures, sold by Sotheby's on 29th November 1960, lot 151, bought and subsequently dispersed by Alan Thomas.
