FRANÇOIS ÉMILE POPINEAU (1887-1951), AN ART DECO BRONZED TERRACOTTA FIGURE OF A BATHING FEMALE NUDE FRENCH, CIRCA 1925 Signed E. Popineau to cast 49.5cm high François Émile Popineau (1887-1951) was a member of the artist group 'La Stele' that was founded in the 1920s by the Éditeur d'Art, Arthur Goldscheider. Popineau received a number of commissions for national war memorials, before developing a specialty in the study of female sculpture and fountain decoration - most notably in Bourges and Bagnères-de-Bigorre. He was awarded a gold medal at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs in 1935 and the Prix Puvis de Chavannes for 'La Baigneuse' in 1937.
