François-Xavier Lalanne Mouton de Lainedesigned circa 1965, our example in 1988 patinated bronze, wool and wheelsStamped LALANNE and dated 88 under the muzzle and on the underside 90,5 x 95 x 48 cm ; 35 ⅜ x 37 ½ x 19 in. ------------------------------------------------------------ François-Xavier Lalanne Mouton de Lainele modèle créé vers 1965, notre exemplaire de 1988 bronze patiné, laine et roulettesEstampillé LALANNE et daté 88 sous le museau et au revers 90,5 x 95 x 48 cm ; 35 ⅜ x 37 ½ x 19 in.Condition reportGood overall condition. The patinated bronze surfaces present with light surface scratches concentrated to the legs, as well as particulate inclusions, minute pinholes and minor casting irregularities which are inherent to the making. The patina presents with occasional and very minor areas of discoloration concentrated to the head and ears, partially revealing the original color of the bronze underside. Some of the wool surfaces are very gently pulling away from the body, which are overall very stable. The area around the head presents with some minor traces of dried adhesive residue to the wool which are not visually distracting. The brass casters have been sensitively replaced in a manner that is consistent with the original design. The inside structure is wobbly.ProvenanceCarl Schlosberg Fine Arts, Sherman Oaks, CaliforniaCollection of Nancy and Julius EpsteinCollection of Kay UngerSotheby's New York, May 25, 2021, lot 146Acquired from the above by the present ownerPrivate collection, Europe------------------------------------------------------------Carl Schlosberg Fine Arts, Sherman Oaks, Californie Collection de Nancy et Julius Epstein Collection de Kay Unger Sotheby's New York, 25 mai 2021, lot 146 Acquis de la précédente par l'actuel propriétaire Collection privée, EuropeLiteratureJohn Russell, Les Lalanne, Paris, 1975, p. 10Daniel Marchesseau, Les Lalanne, Paris, 1998, pp. 36 and 58-59Claude & François-Xavier Lalanne exhibition catalogue, Paul Kasmin Gallery, New York and Ben Brown Fine Arts, London, 2006, p. 90Daniel Abadie, Lalanne(s), Paris, 2008, pp. 192-193 and 299Les Lalanne, exhibition catalogue, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, 2010, pp. 40-41Adrian Dannatt, Les Lalanne: Fifty Years of Work, exhibition catalogue, Paul Kasmin Gallery, New York, 2015, pp. 30, 50 and 137Adrian Dannatt, François-Xavier and Claude Lalanne In the Domain of Dreams, New York, 2018, pp. 10-11, 90, 98, 101, 103-107, 149, 196 and 239------------------------------------------------------------John Russell Les Lalanne, Paris, 1975, p. 10 Daniel Marchesseau, Les Lalanne, Paris, 1998, pp. 36 et 58-59 Claude & François-Xavier Lalanne catalogue d'exposition, Galerie Paul Kasmin, New York et Ben Brown Fine Arts, Londres, 2006, p. 90 Daniel Abadie, Lalanne(s), Paris, 2008, pp. 192-193 et 299 Les Lalanne, catalogue d'exposition, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, 2010, pp. 40-41 Adrian Dannatt, Les Lalanne: Fifty Years of Work, catalogue d'exposition, Paul Kasmin Gallery, New York, 2015, pp. 30, 50 et 137 Adrian Dannatt, François-Xavier and Claude Lalanne In the Domain of Dreams, New York, 2018, pp. 10-11, 90, 98, 101, 103-107, 149, 196 et 239ExhibitedSculpture: Works in Bronze, Carl Schlosberg Fine Arts, Sherman Oaks, California, November 6-27, 1988------------------------------------------------------------Sculpture: Works in Bronze, Carl Schlosberg Fine Arts, Sherman Oaks, Californie, 6 - 27 novembre 1988
