Unpaginated [46 pages advertisements, 84 pages text, 8 pages advertisements]. Illustrated with 3 tipped in color plates, many halftones from photographs, other illustrations. 30x25.5 cm (11¾x10"), spiral-bound wrappers, front wrapper with color lithograph by Christian Berard; set in modern custom folding cloth case. This "Review of French Fashion throughout the Years" showcased the emerging energy and inspiration of France's Haute-Couture industry following 5 years of German occupation. Sponsored by the "Continental Daily Mail" under the auspices of "L'Association Francais d'Action Artistique" in aid of British and French Charities. The Exhibition was presented under the patronage of: The British Ambassador in Paris and Lady Diana Cooper; The French Ambassador in London and Madame Massigli. Fine fabrics and trimmings were in short supply after the war years and an exhibit in miniature was the perfect response to the reality of post-war shortages. Some 200 wire figurines were created by J. Saint-Martin from designs by Eliane Bonabel with molded features from original sculptures by Rebull. The manequins were dressed in creations by 41 of the leading French dressmakers and posed in theatrical scenes designed by Christian Berard, Beaurepaire, Jean Cocteau Dignimont, Douking, Geffroy, Grau-Sala, Jean-Denis Malcles Rebull, Saint-Martin, Touchagues, and Wakhevitch. The Exhibition originally opened at the Louvre and following the London appearance went on the exhibit at many European cities. In 1946 the exhibition was viewed in New York and San Francisco. Program for the exhibit opening on September 12, 1945 at the Princes Galleries, Piccadilly, laid in.
