Author: Smith, John Place: Edinburgh Publisher: T. Cadell & C. Elliot Date: 1780 Description: viii, 352 pp. (4to) 26.5x20.5 cm (10½x8¼"), early calf-backed boards, red morocco label. First Edition. The Gaelic poems of Ossian were thought by Samuel Johnson, and later proved, to be fabrications by the "translator" James Macpherson. Lot Amendments Condition: Boards worn, leather rubbed; earlty owner's name on title page; some foxing; very good. Item number: 251678
