GALILEI, Galileo (1564-1642). Opere. Bologna: H.H. del Dozza, 1656-1655. 2 volumes, 4 o (218 x 164 mm). Half titles, engraved portrait frontispiece of the author by F. Villamoena in both volumes, one folding plate, numerous woodcut illustrations and diagrams, a few full-page, woodcut initials and headpieces, with first blank in volume II. (Some occasional browning and staining, light marginal worming at end of second volume.) 19th-century calf, spines gilt, gilt edges (upper cover of first volume detached, spine of second volume worn). Provenance : Josephine de Angelo (early ownership inscription on title of first volume and removed from title of second volume); Novus Exorior (old ink stamp on title) FIRST COLLECTED EDITION. Edited by Carlo Manolessi and dedicated to Grand Duke Ferdinand II. The Dialogo and the Letter to Christiana, both of which were placed on the Index of Forbidden Books, are excluded.
