GARFIELD ASSASSINATION]. Five printed and manuscript items relating to the assassination of President Garfield, 28 July--September 24 1881 and n.d. Together 5 pages, various sizes. DOCUMENTING THE DEATH OF A PRESIDENT. 28 July 1881: Printed hectograph from the Executive Mansion, conprising a bulletin issued by Drs. Bliss, Barries, Woodward and Reyburn. "The President rested well during the night and no rigor or febrile disturbance has occurred since the bulletin of yesterday. This morning the improvement of his general condition is distinctly perceptible. He appears refreshed by the nights rest and expresses himself cheerfully as to his condition Pulse 92; temperature 98.4; respiration 18." -- 19 September [1881]: THE LAST BULLETIN issued from Elberon, NJ at 11:30 p.m. Garfield's doctors announce Garfield's death: "The President died at 10.35. After the bulletin was issued at half-past five this evening the President continued in much the same condition as during the afternoon, the pulse varying from 102 to 106, with rather increased force and volume. After taking nourishment he fell into a quiet sleep about thirty-five minutes before his death, and while asleep his pulse rose to 120, and was somewhat more feeble. At ten minutes after ten o'clock he awoke, complaining of severe pain over the region of the heart, and almost immediately became unconscious, and ceased to breathe at 10.35." -- 24 September 1881: Broadside Pennsylvania Railroad Timetable for Special Train with the Remains of President Garfield. To be run from Marysville to Pitstburgh , minor defects. -- GUITEAU TRIAL. Manuscript document signed ("W. S. Cox, Jr."), A certified copy of the order of the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia, June 1881, in the case of United States of America v. Charles J. Guiteau , permitting Guiteau to call 20 witnesses on his behalf during his trial. -- THEATRICAL POSTER. Theatrical broadside, n.d., oblong (19 x 8 in.), printed in various typefaces, with engraved portrait of Garfield. Touting a reenactment of the "important scenes showing the Shooting of the President, the Hour of Death, and the Avenging of the Immortal Deed! by the punishment of the Miserable Assassin Guiteau!"
