Also with an engraving and signature of CSA General Samuel Cooper matted and framed together to 11 x 14 in. "Neill, NY" printed below Cooper's portrait, with signature and inscription on ruled paper reading, "I am, General, / Very respectfully / Y[our] ob[edien]t serv[an]t. / S. Cooper / A & I Gen." Braxton Bragg (1817-1876), a West Point graduate and veteran of the Seminole and Mexican-American Wars, was working as a planter in Louisiana when then Civil War broke out. Recalling his heroism during the Battle of Buena Vista (1847), President Jefferson Davis swiftly made Bragg a brigadier general with a command of nearly 40,000 troops in Tennessee. He is best remembered for his decisive victory over Union forces at the Battle of Chickamauga in September 1863. A fellow veteran of the Seminole and Mexican Wars, Samuel Cooper (1798-1876), was a native New Yorker who held the title of highest ranking Confederate general during the Civil War, serving as both Adjutant and Inspector General for the duration of the conflict. Condition: CDV with cropped corners, toning, and scattered areas of spotting/surface soil. Print with surface blemishes and discoloration, and signature with faint area of vertical lines at center.
