In a charming letter, George Gershwin here tells Mrs. Cooper that "I'm glad you listen to my little program & I hope you're enjoying it as much I enjoy doing it. It's fun and I've found my voice. Imagine waiting till you're 35 to find you've got a natural speaking voice on the radio. It's almost like discovering you can play the violin the first time you try." Gershwin continues discussing the songs he is playing and closes "I am, as usual, as ever, George Gershwin " Music by Gershwin was broadcast on the NBC Blue Network from February to May and September through December 1934 as Gershwin needed to raise money to finance the opera he was writing, Porgy and Bess .
