George IV (1762-1830), King of the United Kingdom 1820-30. Document Signed, ‘George R’, as King, Court at Carlton House, 6 December 1823, manuscript document addressed to the Earl of Eldon, being a warrant for the affixing of the Great Seal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland to the Ratification of a Convention between King George IV and the Emperor of Austria, ‘for the definitive settlement of the Austrian Loan, concluded and signed at Vienna, on the Seventeenth day of November [1823]’, countersigned at the conclusion by George Canning (1770-1827, British Prime Minister April-August 1827 and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs 1807-09, 1822-27), 2 pages, with a further 6 pages annexed to the document, being a manuscript copy of the Convention in English and French, comprising 5 articles negotiated between Robert Gordon and Klemens von Metternich in which the Emperor of Austria agrees to repay the sum of ‘Two Millions Five Hundred Thousand Pounds Sterling in satisfaction of the whole of the British Claims’, a total of 6 bifolia including final two blank leaves, tied with a blue ribbon and with a blind embossed paper seal affixed, folio (Qty: 1)
