Born the second son of George de La Poer Beresford, 1st Marquess of Waterford, in 1822 he became Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland. He became a Prelate of the Order of St. Patrick and Chancellor of Dublin University when he oversaw the restoration of St. Patrick's Cathedral.
