Lord Leighton is believed to have been the model for the recumbent man. Estimate £3,000-5,000 Oil on cradled panel. Panel has been cradled (horizontal and vertical wooden batons applied to reverse to keep the panel flat). In good condition - one small split in panel support at upper right-hand corner. Paint layer in good condition - a few small losses and chips. Varnish is clear, even and glossy. Appearance is excellent. Chips and losses to gesso and gilding on frame. Under black light it appears fine.
