Like Barye in the 19th century or Bugatti, George Lucien Guyot is without doubt one of the most talented animal sculptors of the 20th century. Coming from a modest background and after training as a woodcarver, the Jardin des Plantes was the best school for him. There he observed animals for a long time, trying to reproduce both their physique and their psychology. If he succeeds in doing this through bronze, this expressive power is also found in his pastels.

Il devient également membre du Groupe des Douze founded by François Pompon and gathering Jouve and Poupelet in particular. The work of G.L. Guyot, who was particularly passionate about exotic animals, sought to liberate all the nobility of animals through a certain classicism characteristic of the Art Deco period.Read MoreAdditional informationAuction informationBuyers' ObligationsALL BIDDERS MUST AGREE THAT THEY HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD BONHAMS' CONDITIONS OF SALE AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THEM, AND AGREE TO PAY THE BUYER'S PREMIUM AND ANY OTHER CHARGES MENTIONED IN THE NOTICE TO BIDDERS.
