Giovanni Sottocornola Italian, 1855-1917 End of the Day (Pastorella con pecore), 1912 Signed with conjoined first initials GSottocornola and dated 1912 (ll) Oil on canvas 23 1/2 x 27 1/2 inches (59.7 x 69.8 cm) Provenance: Private Collection, Maine S The Spanierman Gallery, LLC Collection of American Art
Frame rubbing. Strip lined. Scattered tiny spots of inpainting in the sky (not many), including a 1 inch area of spots at left center. 2 inch line of inpainting in the shoulder area of the girl along with some craquelure. 6 inch line of scattered inpainting in the shadow beneath the girl and lamb directly behind her. May be a few other tiny spots of inpainting. Addition: there are a few small spots in the center and center left where the pigment is beginning to lift. There does not appear to be flaking at this time. Images can be provided should you need them.
