Color pictorial wrappers, housed in a custom green cloth clamshell box. Advance Reading Copy. First Edition. The scarce advance reading copy of the author's first book. An influential book which helped spark a renaissance in black literature. An autobiographical novel recounting Baldwin's early years as a preacher in Harlem. This advance version has different artwork from the trade edition; it was changed to accommodate the author's objections. Lot Amendments Condition: Slightly sunned spine with light creases, front cover with ½" chip to bottom corner, five short scratches to lower portion and 2" red ink mark, mild rubbing, a few minor and tiny stains to rear cover and occasionally elsewhere; else very good or better in a fine clamshell - attractive and bright front cover artwork.
