Die Urikone dieses Typus', der Legende nach aus der Hand des Evangelisten Lukas, wurde im 12. Jahrhundert in Konstantinopel geschaffen und gelangte wenig später zuerst nach Wladimir und dann in die Mariä-Entschlafens-Kathedrale in den Moskauer Kreml, den Ort der Zarenkrönung, wo sie zu einem Nationalheiligtum aufstieg. Seit 1930 befindet sich die Gottesmutter von Wladimir in der Tretjakow-Galerie in Moskau mit der Inventarnummer 14243.

Russia 18th C. Egg tempera over chalk ground on panel, partially gilt. Deepened middle field. Mother of God with the Child Jesus accompanied by a guardian angel and Saint Basil the Great. Signs of age.

The original icon with this type of depiction, according to the legend from the hand of Luke the Evangelist, was created in Constantinople in the 12th century and a little later reached first Vladimir and then the Cathedral of the Assumption in the Moscow Kremlin, the place of the Tsar's coronation, where it rose to become a national shrine. Since 1930 the Mother of God of Vladimir has been in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow with the inventory number 14243.
