a collection of four letters and addressed envelopes written to and from a Mr. Jonathan Willis of the 48th Illinois Infantry, to and from his sister, and other members of his family, dated from 1862 until mustering out in 1865. The 48th Infantry were organized at Camp Butler and fought in Columbus, Ky., under General Grant, and at the Battle of Shiloh. Condition: Foxing throughout, even toning throughout, envelopes brittle, fold marks and some tearing, else VG.
