Groupe en porcelaine représentant deux soeurs, Meissen, circa 1930-1933 A Meissen group of two sisters, circa 1930-1933Modelled by Paul Scheurich standing on a canted rectangular base the older girl with her arm around her sister who holds a bird in her left hand and has a ball at her feet, at the rear a cat seated on a low pedestal painted with a flower sprig, the base painted with a brown trellis pattern, yellow and truquoise line borders and brown ornamental devices on the corners and front, incised signature 'SCHEURICH/ 29' to rear of base, 19.1cm high, crossed swords mark with dot between the tips in underglaze-blue (with four incised lines), incised moedel number A.1217, impressed former's number 42 (for Alexander Struck)FootnotesProvenance: Private commission for Alexander Struck (1902-1990), modeller and designer at the Meissen manufactory between 1923 and 1968 Exhibited: Meissen, Museum der Meissen Porzellan-Stiftung, Paul Scheurich Porzellangestalter Zeichner Grafiker, 6 March 2020-21 February 2021 The model for this group was delivered to the Meissen manufactory shortly after Scheurich's return from Paris in early Summer 1929. The group was purchased for RM 1,600 and first produced in porcelain in Autumn 1930, probably painted by Scheurich in Meissen. The group was exhibited in Spring 1931 at the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Dresden. The surviving records of royalty payments record the first sales only in 1946 (Rafael 1995a, no. 37).
