Notes: Henri Matisse created numerous studies and paintings of women readers from the mid-1890s until the mid-1920s, the majority of which were modeled after his daughter Marguerite or wife Amelie. The lithograph here, probably modeled after Marguerite, was created in three closely related versions between 1923 and 1925 - "Petite Liseuse", "Grande Liseuse", "Liseuse au Bouquet de Roses" and "Liseuse au Vase Chinois".
