Mr. Simpole got his start as a fine penmaker in 1995 when he created a Snake overlay fountain pen based upon a vintage design by George W. Heath. 250 sterling silver and 50 18K gold examples were made. The entire limitation quickly vanished into private collections and a brilliant penmaking career was launched. In 2015 Mr. Simpole produced an updated version of his first creation, the new one featuring a functional pocket clip (the earlier design was clipless). As many as 50 gold overlay fountain pens were made, but only a few rollerballs were created, of which the present lot is the premiere example. Black hard rubber barrel and cap overlaid with an 18K gold snake with polished cut emerald eyes. 153mm. Blue morocco leather display box lined in red velvet, illustrated leaflet, signed limitation certificate, business card. Limited Edition: No. 1 B.P. ("Before Production"). Excellent condition. See lot 361 for the original Parker Snake overlay by Heath that inspired this pen. Limitation certificate incorrectly states that the pen is No. 2, but the pen is correctly engraved "001 B.P."
