The engraved map stretches from the Adriatic to Persia, with North Africa, the Middle East, etc. The route of Xerxes has been traced in blue pencil, and there is a short tear along the fold. This copy of the book with some interesting ownership signatures on the front endpapers: George Lefroy, Oxford, 1799; J.H.G Lefroy, Oxford, 1800; Abraham M. Goldsmith, Victoria, British Columbia, July 18th 1864; Thomas C. Lancey, San Francisco, 1866; and Oakland Public Library, 1869. Wing H1584. Lot Amendments Condition: Wear to covers, joints cracked, spine treated; some darkening and aging to contents, dark stain to gutter margins most of the way through, though not large and not affecting any text; likely lacking 2 leaves from the first quire, and possibly some leaves near the end (the collation is a little peculiar), sold as is, still a quite impressive, significant edition of Herodotus.
