HORAE, use of Rome, in Latin and French – Ces presents heures a lusaige de Romme . Paris: Philippe Pigouchet for Simon Vostre 15 December 1502. PRINTED ON VELLUM . 8° (176 x 107mm). Collation: a-o8 p4. 20 large metalcuts, large Pigouchet device on title, anatomical skeleton, and 35 small metalcuts, multi-piece ornamental or historiated metalcut borders on most pages, liquid-gold initials and line filler on pink or blue ground. (Occasional light stain or rubbing.) 16th-century French gold-tooled calf, gilt edges (some wormholes in spine, rehinged, repaired at edges, missing two fore-edge ties). Provenance : contemporary inscription in French erased from last page. The large metalcuts are a combination of both sets 2 and 3. Set 3 began to be introduced in 1498 and is distinguished by the criblé ground. Not in Lacombe; Brunet V, 1586, Heures gothiques 57.
