Collation : A B 6 C 4 D-I 6 K 8 L 2 . 61 leaves (of 62; without the final blank). 39 lines and head-line, shoulder notes. 16 woodcuts (15 blocks, 1 repeat, 1 full-page). Gothic types 17:145, 19:280, 25:81, 26:105. (Title lightly soiled and with lower corner renewed, some marginal worming on the first few leaves catching a few letters in head-lines, some occasional light spotting.) 19th-century green morocco gilt, edges gilt (light wear along joints). Provenance : early marginalia (erroneously attributed to Philip Melanchthon) -- Estelle Doheny (morocco bookplate; purchased from A.S.W. Rosenbach, Philadelphia, 4 May 1943) -- donated to SMS 1943. FIRST EDITION. A finely illustrated book from the press of Gruninger, whose earliest books in Strassburg were printed in the 1480s. Adams H-1147; Brunet III:366; Pr 9892.
