HUGO SENENSIS (Ugo Benzi of Siena, 1376-1439). Trattato circa la conservazione della sanità , Milan: Petrus de Corneno, 31 May 1481, large 8° (194 x 141mm), 54 leaves, gothic type, double column, 3-line initial spaces with guide-letters, (some light soiling, neat cut into text on first leaf without loss), 16th-century blindstamped calf over paper boards (newer endleaves). [HCR 9021; BMC VI, 759; Goff H-548] FIRST EDITION of "the earliest treatise on personal hygiene and the conservation of health to be printed in Italian" (Stillwell 309). It contains also Hugo's Libro de conservare la persona in sanitade and a Consiglio (not included in his Consilia ), both treatises on weight control. Only 5 books have been assigned to the press of Petrus de Corneno, four of which (including the present one) are the first edition of their respective text. RARE.
