HUNTER, C. G. The Picture of Russia: being a Description of the Government, Laws, Religion, Commerce, Manners and Customs of that Extensive Empire . London: Hodgson & Co., 1823. 8°. Hand-coloured folding engraved map and 9 hand-coloured plates, some partly aquatinted (discolouration and spotting). Original boards (rebacked with blue cloth, new endpapers). Provenance : P. Botkine (auction slip pasted in recording that he bought the book at Drouot in December 1931). Second edition of this rare work, first printed in 1817 under the title Russia, being a Complete Picture of that Empire . Seven of the plates depict Russian costume and the other two are aquatint views of Moscow and St Petersburg. Not in BMC, Abbey, Colas or Lipperheide.
