ILLUSTRATION ART] SZYK, ARTHUR. Pair of drawings by Arthur Szyk for Andersens Fairy Tales, published Grossett & Dunlap: New York, ... for Andersen's Fairy Tales, published Grossett & Dunlap: New York, (1945). Both drawings in sepia ink on thin illustration board, one signed and dated "Arthur Szyk, N.Y., [19]45", each drawing approximately 6 3/8 x 3 3/4 inches (16 x 9.5 cm) on a slightly larger sheet. Each is notated in pencil with the stories for which they are intended and with the words from the tale that are reflected by the drawing: The Storks, "Close to the corner of a street..." and The Bottle Neck, "A party of children were playing." Slight marginal soiling, notations in pencil in lower margin as noted, matted and framed. The first drawing appears as a full page illustration in the published work, the second as a vignette. Both were published in sepia, which obscures the extraordinary quality of the drawings. Art by Szyk for this publication is very scarce. C
