Separate Publication by Theodor Galle Niederlande und Belgien. "Inferioris Germaniae provinciarum nova descriptio". Kupferstich-Karte von J. B. Vrients, 1606, bei T. Galle, Antwerpen. Mit 2 Rollwerks- und 1 großen Wappenkartusche, figürlicher und maritimer Staffage sowie ornament. Bordüre. 41,5:55 cm. Heijden, Nederlanden 32; Broecke 59; Schilder, MCN II, S. 160ff.; s.a. Koeman III, 3000:31B. - Seltener 3. Zustand der auf Philip Galle zurückgehenden Karte, erstmals als Einblattdruck von Vrients 1606 hrsg., dann in seinen Ortelius-Ausg. inkorporiert. Galle, der die Platten von Vrients nach dessen Tod zur Verfügung gestellt bekam, änderte nur wenig am Kartenbild und setzte seine Adresse hinzu (s. hierzu ausführl. Schilder, auch im Vergleich zu der Blaeu-Karte). Vorliegend Separatdruck ohne Rückentext aus einem privaten Sammelband mit latein. Bezeichnung und Num. "130" in Tinte verso. - Rundum mit alten, teils geglätteten Faltstellen in den Bildrändern; rechts knapprandig, links bis in die Bordüre beschnitten. Etwas gebräunt u. tlw. stärker braunfleckig. Im oberen Bildrand wenige Löchlein, rechts kl. dünne Papierstelle; unten in den Ecken wenige Wurmstiche, je 1 hinterlegter Hakenriss am Bug bzw. kl. Einriss am linken Plattenrand. Rare third state of Vrients map of 1606 with the addition of Theodor Galle's imprint. "It occurs with (post-1612) Spanish text or without text on verso and probably dates from before 1621, the year when Albrecht, Duke of Austria, died. About ten copies are known" (Broecke, p. 219). Our copy from a composite atlas with only Latin title and numbering in ink on reverse. - Due to provenance with old folds all around at borders of image; trimmed at right, cut close with loss of outer ornamental border at left. Some browning and somewhat stronger spotting in places. A few tiny holes at top, small paperflaw at right; a few wormstitches at lower corners, repair to tear at centerfold resp. to left platemark.
