Iraq. A group of 7 personal photograph albums from Wing Commander C.W.M. (Larry) Ling, DFC AFC (1911-2001) while based at RAF Habbaniya and Baghdad, Iraq, c. 1940-42, including numerous photographs of Crown Prince Abdallah (Prince Regent of Iraq), the future King Faisal II (as a boy, aged about 7), Nuri Pasha (later Iraqi prime minister), Princess Amal 'Asmahan' and senior British officers including Major Generals E.P. Quinan, D.G. Bromilow, Lieutenant Colonel V. Paley, with senior military presentations and royal visits at RAF Habbaniya, polo playing, hunting and shooting parties, street scenes in Kurdistan, Amman, Baghdad, Chaqlawa, Rowandez and Basra, also crashed aircraft at Amman aerodrome, a total of over 200 photographs, mostly 7.5 x 13 cm and smaller sizes, pasted or window-mounted in 7 albums and largely captioned on mounts in ink, original cloth/limp leather, oblong 8vo and similar sizes (Qty: 7) C.W.M. Ling was Chief Flying Instructor at No. 4 Flight Training School at RAF Habbaniya and was injured while defending it during the Iraqi Insurgency in 1941. The albums contain at least 10 images of the future King Faisal II.
