(Islamic & Indian Art, 16th April 2021) A TINTED DRAWING OF A MUGHAL PRINCE RIDING AN ELEPHANT Mughal School, Northern India, 18th - early 19th century A TINTED DRAWING OF A MUGHAL PRINCE RIDING AN ELEPHANT Mughal School, Northern India, 18th - early 19th century Opaque pigments heightened with gold, pencil and black ink on paper, the horizontal composition depicting a Mughal prince as a mahout, wearing a turban with a tall aigrette with black heron's feathers, holding a golden ankus and directing the elephant, a later addition of 4ll. of black ink nasta'liq Persian script below the belly of the animal, to the bottom of the composition a pseudo-stamp similar to the Iranian ones used for ownership dated 1182 AH (1768), a later added trompe l'oeil, mounted, glazed and framed, 22cm x 28cm excluding the frame.
