J.B.G. 'Bryn' Thomas. Rugby and cricket writer. Maroon autograph album containing a comprehensive collection of county and international cricket signatures, also rugby and football from the 1950s. Formerly the property of J.G.B. Thomas and his son, Wayne Thomas. Touring team autographs include Pakistan 1954, South Africa 1955, New Zealand 1958, India 1959, South Africa 1960. Counties represented include Glamorgan, Hampshire, Kent, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Middlesex, Northamptonshire, Somerset, Sussex, Warwickshire, Worcestershire etc. Individual signatures include Peter May, Richie Benaud, Ian Johnson, Fred Trueman etc. Rugby content includes Pontypool 1957/58, Welsh Seven-a-side Championships etc. The album also includes three official autograph sheets laid down for the Australian Rugby Union Tour to British Isles 1957/58, Derbyshire C.C.C. and Northamptonshire C.C.C. Also includes two pages individually signed by J.B.G. Thomas. The majority of signatures in ink signed to pages, some on pieces laid down. Some pages becoming disbound. G
Born in Pontypridd in 1917, Bryn Thomas was chief rugby writer for the Western Mail from 1946, was appointed the Sports Editor in 1965, becoming as well known as many of the rugby players of the period, and highly influential with administrators
