Japan—attributed to the studio of T. Enami Panorama of Nagasaki, c.1885 3-part hand-coloured albumen print panorama (205 x 795mm.), numbered A208 and captioned in the negative, presented in a modern mount, some light spotting, minor edge wear to prints Nagasaki lies at the head of long bay which forms the best natural harbour on the island of Kyushu, and is home to one of Japan's oldest international ports, becoming a "free port" in 1859. This 19th century view is of great historical importance as much of the city was destroyed in August 1945. Enami T. was the trading name of Enami Nobukuni (1859-1929), "a major Japanese photographer who trained under Ogawa Kazumasa before setting up his Yokohama studio in 1892 which continued after 1929 under his son's (Tamotsu) management until 1969" (Bennett, Old Japanese Photographs, p. 282).
