Uncut with wide margins, a few plates with faint stains, short expert repairs in margin of one plate, plates with bright color and generally clean; spine darkened and with some wear, boards rubbed, bookplate removed from front pastedown. Provenance: Historian George Macaulay Trevelyan 1876-1962 (gift inscription on title page: "George Macaulay Trevelyan from his father, Feb. 16, 1884"). FIRST EDITION, LATER ISSUE, but without the portrait issued with later bound sets. Some of the text sheets watermarked "1812," some of the plates watermarked 1824 or 1825.
