“Fuglebur”. Birdcage. Signed with monogram and dated 39. Watercolour on paper. Sheet size 61,5×63. Exhibited: Den Frie, 1940 no. 154. Ordrupgaard, “Johannes og Alhed Larsen. Et hjem i naturen”, 2015–2016 no. 102. A bird in a cage has long symbolized oppressed humanity, and the free bird seen as a symbol of freedom. Did Johannes Larsen have this idea in mind, when he depicted one of the family's canary in a cage? A motif he returned to several times. This lot is subject to Artist's Royalty .
