Beschreibung:

JOHN EVERETT MILLAIS (1829-1896) Autograph letter signed ("John Everett Millais"), to Mrs Leslie on Millais monogramed headed paper, 8, 2 pp., n.p. [but London], 30 July 1868. Requesting that he be allowed to visit them at a later date explaining: "I had entirely forgotten that all my pictures would be here from the Royal Academy and I must work all day on them cleaning so as they are all to leave my house on Monday morning" as well as not being unable to avoid a last minute summons without risking "a penalty of perhaps (50 which with a large family is not to be thought of". With corresponding envelope. With two other signed letters from Millais to Mrs Leslie, discussing fundraising donations: "the Christie & Manson people never give anything" (13 May 1869) and declining with regret an invitation due to a previous engagement (15 March 1892). All laid down in the December 1896 issue of Scribner's Magazine on Sir John Millais. (4)
