A Gentleman, called Sir Arthur Hesilrige (1601-1661), wearing armour and white lawn collar, his brown hair worn long. Watercolour on vellum, signed on the obverse with initials in gold and dated 1652/ IH., gilt-metal frame, the reverse glazed to reveal inscription Wm Battell M.A. of/ Comber Grove in the Co. of/ Somerset marry'd Dorothy/ daughter of Sir Rob. Hesilrige/ by which Connection he obtain'd/ this portrait of Sir Arthur Hesilrige/ who in the civil Wars raised a/ Regiment of Horse called 'The Lobsters' on the side of/ the Parliament against Charles/ the 1st; he died in 1660, it was painted by the youg/ er Hoskins of whom the there i*/ an Account in Lord Orford's/ history of Painters, given/ to Lt Col.
