New York: Hugh Gaine, [1789]. First edition. Leonard Bronk copy, with two notes signed by Hugh Gaine laid-in, one also signed by Richard Varick. Two volumes in one. Contemporary calf with "Leonard Bronk" stamped in gilt to the upper cover and a red morocco lettering label, slipcase. 15 x 10 inches (38 x 26 cm); [4], 336, [12], xii, [2]; [2], 471, [17] pp. Front endpaper detached, edges toned, shelfwear but the binding sound. The important Varick and Jones edition of New York's post-Revolutionary laws, from 1778 on. The title page vignette was engraved by Peter Maverick according to ESTC. Leonard Bronk was a member of the New York Assembly during this period. The Varick signed note here authorizes payment to Hugh Gaine for the printing of bank notes. Evans 22012.
