Original printed wrappers, housed in an early half morocco case. 9 x 7 inches (23.5 x 18.5 cm); 732 pp., errata slip laid in. An unrestored copy, the covers lightly thumbsoiled, upper joint split but not detached, usual vertical creases along spine, short tear into half-title. A fine association copy as Eakins Press founder Leslie Katz was a friend to Joyce publisher Sylvia Beach. Upon her death in 1962, Katz collaborated with several other colleagues and friends of Beach in memorializing her in the Mercure de France, writing "To her, writers were artisans ... Publication and distribution of their work was a consecrated practicality, an act of communion, a personal commitment to merit." According to Slocum & Cahoon, of the 2000 copies of this second printing of Ulysses from the first edition plates, approximately 500 were sent to America and subsequently burned by government censorship authorities.
