The Challenge to Liberty. NY: Charles Scribner’s, 1934. First edition. Inscribed by Hoover to Florence Kahn. 4. Pershing, John J. Photograph inscribed on mount to Julius Kahn. 5. Coolidge, Calvin. Typed Letter Signed, June 15, 1920, to Julius Kahn. 6. Hoover, Herbert. Typed Letter Signed, November 16, 1932, to Florence Kahn, together with two portraits inscribed by Hoover, n.d. 7. Hoover, John Edgar. Typed Letter Signed (“Edgar”), July 20, 1942, to Florence Kahn. Julius Kahn was the celebrated and longstanding Congressman representing San Francisco for the first quarter of the 20th century. He is remembered as an advocate of military readiness, and helped draft the National Defense Acts of 1915 and 1920. His wife, Florence Prag Kahn, succeeded him in Congress and served until 1937. Provenance: Descended through the family to the present.
